What is metabolic flexibility?

Metabolic flexibility refers to the body's ability to efficiently switch between using carbohydrates and fats as a source of energy based on their availability and the body’s energy demands. This switching is crucial for maintaining energy homeostasis and optimal health.

A metabolically flexible person can easily transition from burning glucose (from carbohydrates) for energy during times of eating or high-intensity exercise, to burning fatty acids (from fats) during fasting, low-intensity exercise, or when carbohydrate availability is low. This adaptability is a sign of good metabolic health.

What are Ketones?

Ketones are a type of organic compound.  In the human body, ketones are produced in the liver and are burned for energy when glucose is low. This can occur during fasting or when following a low-carb diet, leading to a state called ketosis.

How does consuming Ketone IQ raise Ketone levels?        

Ketone IQ contains the ketone precursor, (R)-1,3-Butanediol (R13B). R13B can be metabolized by the liver into beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), which is why consuming R13B can raise BHB levels in the blood.  The increase in BHB levels can mimic the physiological state of ketosis, where the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates.

What is MCT oil?

MCT stands for Medium Chain Triglyceride. It's a type of fat derived from coconut oil. MCTs are shorter fatty acid chains, which makes them easier to digest and absorb by the body.
